Baroque House

The exhibition Baroque House involves talismanic stuff. It is crucial to be able to dive directly into the issues that give this event its mysterious character and to remove the veil that shrouds the exhibition, which brings Damla Yalçın, Güneş Terkol, Güçlü Öztekin, Zeynep Beler, and Sinan Logie together. In that respect, it would be invaluable to present a map of the Baroque House. One might begin by putting the word baroque aside, and stating the fact that the house should not be reduced to have a single type of meaning. Because the house is not a fixed space. It changes, it transforms or it gets intertwined with different emotional states. At the same time, the house becomes associated with the chain of events that take place. At times it holds the possibility of being a place that provides room for privacy, or where violence might take place, where escape plans are conceived, or simply put, where the mechanisms of power are at work. In establishing a connection between the exhibition and the house, the unstable ground that exists could be called fluid, implying a positive sense. As a matter of fact, in the aesthetic practices established in the Baroque House, through the diverse imaginative faculties, varied chain of events accumulated in memory, and the act of creating different spaces, there is a coexistence of seemingly different worlds. This situation can also be perceived as a coalescence of heterogeneous (multiple types of) elements. While the experiences of the works address a shared world, they also bear the originality of being able to exist in the same space. However, the details of the diversity that has emerged have an important place in understanding the exhibition.
